ITA Kickoff Weekend Opens Against Ole Miss for Men's Tennis

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's tennis team opens play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday, January 28, at 9 a.m. against Ole Miss in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the Virginia Tennis Complex at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend is brings together the top 60 men's and women's college tennis teams for a weekend of intense competition. Hosted by 15 men's and women's programs from across the country, the 120 teams play for the opportunity to be one 15 teams from gender advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Not just playing for pride, the stakes will be high for Kickoff Weekend play as all 120 competing teams are looking to be just one of the 15 teams from each gender to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
A win over the Rebels would see Princeton advance to the Championship Match on Sunday, January 29, at 1 p.m. In the result of a loss, the Tigers would play in the consolation match at 10 a.m.
Ole Miss is 2-0 on the season, opening the season with a pair of 7-0 wins over Tennessee State in Oxford, Mississippi, on Saturday, January 21. The Rebels also feature a pair of ranked players in No. 82 John Hallquist Lithen and No. 99 Nikola Slavic. In 2022-23, Ole Miss ended the season ranked No. 32 and garnered selection to the NCAA Tournament.
The first-ranked and defending National Champion Cavaliers are 4-0 in 2022-23, and defeated No. 11 Baylor 4-0 in its most recent match on Saturday, January 22, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The duo of Ryan Goetz and Chris Rodesch check in at No. 17 in the ITA doubles rankings, and three from UVA are ranked in singles; Rodesch No. 27, Inaki Montes de la Torre No. 37 and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg No. 45. Last season, UVA was 28-5 overall and 12-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play.
The Wolf Pack is 0-1 on the season, and dropped its season-opener on Friday, January 13, 4-3 to UC San Diego in La Jolla, California. Last season, Nevada was 19-8 overall and 5-1 in Mountain West play. The Wolf Pack earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the conference championship and finished the season ranked No. 69.
