Men's Hockey Earns Exhibition Win Over Toronto, 4-2
October 14, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
It took a period for Princeton to settle in, but four unanswered goals from the Tigers staked the Orange and Black to a 4-1 lead en route to a 4-2 win over the University of Toronto in an exhibition game at Hobey Baker Rink.
David Jacobs and Kai Daniells each had a goal and an assist, while Noah de la Durantaye and Joe Berg added the other two Princeton goals.
Connor Callaghan stopped 5-of-6 shots faced in his 30:10 of work, while Arthur Smith stopped 11-of-12 to close out the game.
Toronto opened the scoring midway through the first period and led, 1-0, after the opening stanza.
Noah de la Durantaye tied the game just 0:25 into the second period, one-timing home a power-play goal with Princeton on a 4-on-3 man advantage.
The Tigers scored twice in a span of 2:14 in the third period to take a 3-1 lead. Up first, David Jacobs stayed with a play in the Toronto slot area, stepping into a loose puck after a blocked shot and beating the goalie 6:39 into the final period. Moments later, Kai Daniells swatted home a loose rebound for a PPG and a 3-1 lead.
A long-range empty-netter from Joe Berg after a nice stickcheck inside the Princeton zone provided extra insurance and a 4-1 lead. Toronto would tack on a late PPG for the final score.
Princeton opens its 2023-24 regular season with a trip to Harvard (November 3) and Dartmouth (November 4).
