Tordin Scores Twice as Women's Soccer Team Clinches Ivy Tournament Bid
October 21, 2023 | Women's Soccer
Scoring twice in less than three minutes as the first half wound down, Pietra Tordin had both goals for the Princeton women's soccer team on Saturday in New Hampshire as the Tigers stopped Dartmouth 2-0 and wrapped up a bid to the inaugural Ivy League Tournament along the way.
Brown won its game on Saturday to clinch hosting the tournament, and the seedings and pairings will be decided with the final weekend's results next Saturday.Â
In this Saturday's win, Princeton outshot Dartmouth 25-6 overall and 11-1 on goal as the Tigers extended their lengthy shutout streak against the Big Green to 705:20 since the last Dartmouth goal allowed in the series in 2015.
Tordin opened the scoring when her shot from the corner of the 18 found a Dartmouth arm, drawing a penalty kick that the Tiger sophomore buried for a 1-0 lead with two-plus minutes to go in the half. Just more than two minutes later, as the half's final seconds ticked away, Heather MacNab served a ball toward goal that Tordin headed home, and the Tigers were up 2-0.
Tordin's two goals lifted her to 12 on the season and 20 for her career. The 12 goals put her in a tie for ninth-most in a season in program history and a tie for third-most by a Tiger first-year or sophomore. Tyler Lussi '17 scored 18, the most for a Tiger first-year or sophomore, in her sophomore season of 2014. Not yet halfway through her Tiger career, Tordin's 20 goals already put her 14th on the program's list. Lussi holds the record there with 52, and Esmeralda Negron '05, whose career record Lussi broke in 2016, holds the single-season program record at 20.
Princeton will conclude the regular season next Saturday when Columbia visits Roberts Stadium.
