Tyler "Rub-Win" Caps Weekend Sweep With OT Heroics
November 11, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton was up against it late, trailing by a score of 2-1 to Brown with just over a minute to play, but were undaunted en route to a stunning 3-2 win in overtime at Hobey Baker Rink.
Tyler Rubin had the OT winner, breaking in alone and roofing a snapshot over Tyler Shea's shoulder and setting off bedlam at Baker Rink for the second time in as many nights following Adam Robbin's overtime winner to knock off Yale. The pair of overtime wins marks the first time the Tigers have won consecutive games in overtime since picking up a pair of OT wins at Dartmouth in the First Round of the 2020 ECAC Playoffs. The last time the Tigers secured two overtime wins in a row in the regular season was during the 1986-87 season when the Tigers defeated Army (2-1, 4-3) on November 29-30.
Â
Freshman Conor Callaghan had 30 saves to earn his first collegiate win in his first collegiate start.
Â
Alex Pineau scored a power-play goal 2:09 into the middle period to give the Bears a 1-0 lead, and Max Scott followed just under six minutes later with a 4-on-4 goal.
Â
The Tigers would climb within one goal just before the end of the second frame via an Ian Murphy breakaway with 3:52 left in the period. Murphy, who had been serving a minor penalty after running into the Brown goalie fighting for a loose puck, stepped out of the box and received a stretch pass from Nick Carabin and faked out Tyler Shea for his second goal of the season.
Â
In overtime, Carabin settled a possession to allow for a line change which led to Murphy funneling a stretch pass through the Brown defense to send Rubin clear for his bar-down winner.

Rubin's heroics wouldn't have happened without a gritty redirection from Joe Berg with 1:05 left in regulation. With the goalie pulled, Kai Daniells sent a low wrister towards the goal in Berg's direction and the Texan tipped it home to tie the game and force overtime.Tyler Rub-win!

After a grueling overtime win the night before and a tight contest through on Saturday, Princeton was down to its last legs and time winding down when Rubin sent a cross-ice pass to Daniells who served a low wrister into a scrum in front where Berg knocked it home to tie the game with 1:05 left.Sneaky, Sneaky.@Ian_Murphy12 served his time then sprung free for a nifty breakaway tuck.@NCAAIceHockey | @ecachockey pic.twitter.com/2lyGe9nETz
