Women's Basketball Battles Back To Drop Middle Tennessee State, 65-60
November 12, 2023 | Women's Basketball
MURFREESBORO – The Princeton Women's Basketball Team rallied from a 14-point deficit to take down the Middle Tennessee State Lady Raiders, 65-60, at the Murphy Center on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Here were the six players that helped finish the final 2:04 of game action for the Tigers: Ellie Mitchell, Skye Belker, Ashley Chea, Amelia Osgood, Katie Thiers and Chet Nweke. Princeton's top two scorers, Madison St. Rose and Kaitlyn Chen had fouled out.
Â
That group, showing the depth of the squad, sank eight free throws to hold off a MTSU late rally and secure the victory.
Â
Osgood, in her home state, knocked down the two from the charity stripe that put the battle away.
Â
Middle Tennessee State held its largest lead of the game, 30-16, with 4:34 to go in the first half. Princeton ripped off 10-1 run to end the second quarter to cut the deficit to five, 31-26, at the break.
Â
Belker scored 10 of her team-best 18 points in the third stanza as Princeton flipped the game around, holding a 48-44 advantage after 30 minutes. The Tigers shot a scorching 60 percent from the floor during that time.
Â
Five straight to open the fourth frame gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the contest, 53-44, with 6:59 to go.
Â
Middle Tennessee made one more push, getting within two after two free throws following St. Rose's fifth foul, but the Tigers kept the Lady Raiders at bay with the eight free throws in the win.
Â
Chen registered 14 points along with three steals while Chea collected nine points and six rebounds in the victory. Thiers had seven points and four caroms while also being a team-high +11 in 20 minutes off the bench.
Â
The Tigers' 14-point comeback is the second largest of the Carla Berube era, trailing only last year's Rutgers rally. Princeton heads on the road next Friday to take on No. 4 UCLA (2:30 p.m.) on the PAC-12 Network.
