February 18, 2023 | Women's Basketball
NEW HAVEN – Kaitlyn Chen dropped in 25 points as the Women's Basketball Team disposed the Yale Bulldogs, 68-42, at the Lee Amphitheater on Saturday night.
Chen was 12-of-18 from the floor in 29 minutes of action. Ellie Mitchell added nine points and 15 rebounds including eight offensive caroms in the win.
After allowing 14 points and five baskets in the first quarter, Princeton gave up just 13 points and five makes over the next two frames. Head coach Carla Berube's squad led by as many as 14 before settling with a 32-21 advantage at halftime.
In the third stanza, Yale did not score until the 2:24 mark as Princeton ran off 13 consecutive points. The Tigers held a 51-27 lead after 30 minutes and were not threatened in the fourth quarter.
It's the seventh 20+ point performance of Chen's career and her fifth this season. She shot 21-of-30 (70 percent) for the weekend, contributing 45 points. Mitchell has grabbed at least 10 boards in 12 contests this year and is 50 shy of her single-season record (311). The road unit scored 27 points off 27 Yale turnovers which is tied for the highest by a Princeton opponent this season (Yale twice and No. 6 UConn).
Princeton is now 19-5 this season and 10-2 in the Ivy League while Yale is 11-14 overall and 5-7 in conference action. The Tigers will welcome Harvard, who clinched the final spot in the Ivy League Tournament today, for Senior Night on Feb. 24. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
