St. Rose Shines For Women's Basketball In Win Over Cornell

ITHACA – Madison St. Rose continued her strong play with a team-best 18 points as the Women's Basketball Team dropped the Cornell Big Red, 63-52, at Newman Arena on Friday evening.

Up one in the first quarter, the Tigers ran off 12 straight points to go in front, 18-5, with three minutes to go. Cornell closed the gap to seven, 22-15, after the first stanza.

The Big Red began the second frame with seven consecutive points to tie the score at 22-all, but Princeton countered with a 9-0 sprint of its own before taking a 33-25 advantage into halftime.

In front, 33-30, the Tigers jumped out with a 17-5 run, taking a 50-35 lead with 65 seconds left in the third quarter. Princeton never allowed Cornell to get within 10 the rest of the game.

St. Rose is averaging 15.0 points per game over her last seven contests and has six 15+ point performances during that stretch. Kaitlyn Chen added 15 points, six dimes and four rebounds while Julia Cunningham had 12 points and five helpers in the win.

Head coach Carla Berube won her 450th career game with the decision over Cornell. After posting a 384-96 record (.800) in 17 years with Tufts University, she has secured a 66-11 mark (.857) at Princeton.

The Tigers improve to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the Ivy League while Cornell fell to 9-12 this season and 2-6 in conference action. Princeton will take on Columbia Saturday at 4 p.m.
