Tigers Split Florida Trip Opener, Top Lafayette
March 11, 2023 | Softball
It was a split for the Princeton softball team Saturday as the spring trip to Madeira Beach, Fla., opened with a 6-0 loss to Iowa and a 3-1 win over Lafayette.
Four players split Princeton's four hits against Iowa as the Hawkeyes scored three in the second inning on two walks and two hits to pull in front. Iowa added another in the third on two hits and a walk, and in the fifth, a two-run homer from Denali Loecker followed a base hit for Iowa's final runs.
The Leopards opened the scoring in the day's second game, pushing a run across in the second inning on two hits and a hit batter, but Princeton tied it up in the bottom half of the inning. Cate Bade had a leadoff single and moved around on a stolen base and a wild pitch before coming home on a Serena Starks base hit.
In the fifth, Starks started the inning with a single, and after a grounder off the bat of Julia Dumais erased Starks, Adrienne Chang hit a two-run home run to put Princeton in front.
Molly Chambers went 5 1/3 innings and allowed the run on three hits and six walks, striking out one, and Meghan Harrington closed it out with 1 2/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits without a walk, striking out two.
Princeton will continue with two more games Sunday, against South Alabama at 9 a.m. and Lehigh at 11:30 a.m. Both games can be streamed on FloSoftball, and live scoring for the South Alabama game will be available here.
