No. 51 Princeton Rallies Past No. 34 San Diego
March 17, 2023 | Men's Tennis
Winning four straight singles matches to close the day, the No. 51-ranked Princeton men's tennis team was a 4-3 winner over No. 34 San Diego to open the Ed Collins Spring Classic on Friday in San Diego.
Princeton fell behind 3-0 after the Toreros won the doubles point and the first two matches off court at one and five. Princeton answered with straight-set wins from Thomas Bosancic on court two and Matthew Bosancic on court six to pull within 3-2, and both Sebastian Sec and Will Peters won in three sets after rallying from losing the first set to provide the tying and clinching points for Princeton.
"It was a phenomenal effort for our guys today to rally from a 0-3 hole and beat a team that is incredibly tough on their home courts," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We have a tremendous amount of respect for (USD) coach (Ryan) Keckley and his program. They have had our number the last couple of times so it was gratifying to see us make the adjustment outdoors and win a gritty match on the road. We need to continue getting better and will have a tough assignment tomorrow with Utah."
The Tigers will face No. 70 Utah Saturday as the tournament continues. Match details are to be announced.
