No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Falls At No. 22 Yale, 15-10
March 04, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
An early run for No. 22 Yale was too much for No. 15 to overcome in a 15-10 loss for the Tigers in New Haven.
Â
Yale burst out to a 4-0 lead to open the game, connecting on its first four shots on goal over the opening 2:26 of the contest. Princeton would climb back within two early in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs eventually pulled away.
Â
McKenzie Blake had four points for the Tigers, scoring three times and adding an assist. Grace Tauckus also had a hat trick, while Jami MacDonald, Ellie Mueller, Kari Buonanno and Samantha DeVito each had one goal.
Â
For Yale, Jenna Collignon led the way with six goals and an assist for seven points. Olivia Penoyer had a goal and three assists, while Bella Saviano had a hat trick.
Â
Sky Carrasquillo had nine draw controls, part of a 22-6 win in that category for the Bulldogs.
Â
The Tigers finally got on the board and ended the Yale run with a Samantha DeVito free position 5:17 into the game.
Â
Yale answered with back-to-back player-up goals to build a 6-1 lead, with Bri Carrasquillo and Jenna Collignon each scoring in a span of 1:04.
Â
McKenzie Blake would net Princeton's second goal, uncorking a low-angle shot which went five-hole on the Yale keeper with 3:22 left in the opening quarter.
Â
Buonanno scored 1:48 in, racing to goal and burying a Jami MacDonald pass. Tauckus would follow 1:52 later with a player-down goal from in tight off a pass from Ellie Mueller.
Â
The run hit three with a Mueller goal 5:59 into the third quarter as she slipped free at the far post to take a Kate Mulham pass and score to cut Yale's lead to 9-7.
Â
Yale would nudge back, scoring the next two for an 11-7 lead with 5:31 to play in the third. Grace Tauckus was not done in the period, though, scoring from the middle of the Yale defense with 3:55 left in the period to send the game to the fourth quarter with Yale in front, 11-8.
Â
Two Yale goals to start the fourth quarter from Collignon and Sophie Straka halted Princeton's momentum and rebuilt a five-goal lead for the Bulldogs. McKenzie Blake countered with her third of the game midway through the fourth quarter, but another pair of Bulldogs goals provided added insurance with 6:26 left in the game.
