Softball Team Closes Texas Weekend with Win over Tennessee State
March 05, 2023 | Softball
Going extra innings with Tennessee State for the second time in as many games on the weekend, the Princeton softball team was a 6-5 winner over TSU in the teams' final game at the Texas-hosted Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
Serena Starks and Adrienne Chang each had two hits, while Chang and Lauren Sablone each drove in two runs. Alexis Laudenslager and Brielle Wright split time in the circle, with Wright getting her first collegiate win and doing so in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
Princeton took a 4-0 lead after its third at-bat. Two of those runs came home in the second inning, when a Grace Jackson single and a Cate Bade walk put two runners on for Sablone to triple home. Two more runs came home in the third when Starks and Allison Ha led the inning with base hits and Chang singled both home.
Tennessee State tied it with four in its half of the third in an inning that saw three walks, two hits and a hit batter. TSU took a 5-4 lead in the fourth when a walk, a single, an error and a wild pitch added up to a run.
Princeton tied it again in the sixth when two errors set up an opportunity for Caitlin Bish to bring home a run with a ground ball to make it 5-5, and it stayed there until the eighth inning.
With the tiebreaker runner on second base, Lauren Pappert's double brought home the go-ahead run, and in the bottom of the inning, Wright got Tennessee State in order to seal the win.
Princeton will head to Madeira Beach, Fla., for six games over five days during the team's annual spring trip, beginning March 11.
