Chen, Mitchell, St. Rose Collect Major Ivy Awards; Three Named All-Ivy

PRINCETON – The Women's Basketball Team swept the Ivy Player of the Year awards, the conference announced today.

Kaitlyn Chen was named Ivy League Player of the Year while Ellie Mitchell was named Ivy Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Madison St. Rose secured Ivy Rookie of the Year. Chen was also an unanimous selection for First-Team All-Ivy while Grace Stone and Julia Cunningham were second-team honorees.

Chen averaged 15.4 points, 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Tigers that are currently on a 13-game winning streak. Over the last four contests, the junior has three 20+ point performances including 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting in the Ivy clinching victory at Penn. Chen is shooting 48.9 percent which is 79th in the country despite only shooting 15.5 percent of her shots outside the three-point line.

It is the ninth time that a Princeton Tiger has earned Ivy Player of the Year and the fifth straight playing season that Princeton has taken home the top honor.

Mitchell has collected her second Ivy Defensive Player of the Year award, joining Lauren Polansky '13 as multi-year Princeton DPOY winners. According to Her Hoops Stats, the junior is sixth in the country in defensive win shares (4.1) and defensive rating (67.7) for a Princeton squad that is seventh in the NCAA in scoring defense (52.8). Mitchell also helps the defense by being one of the best rebounds in the nation, sitting 12th in rebounds per game (10.8).

St. Rose sits fourth on the team in scoring, averaging just under 10 points per contest (9.4). She has really turned up her offensive game, scoring almost 70 percent of season points during the Tigers' 13-game winning streak. St. Rose is the fourth Princeton player to corral this Rookie of the Year selection.

Cunningham is second on the unit in scoring at 10.5 points per game, while contributing 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 helpers per contest. She has scored double figures in 15 games this season and including a 15-point outing at Columbia where she became the 27th Tiger to reach 1,000 career points. The senior captain's 75 assists in 2022-23 are a career as are her 25 blocks. This is Cunningham's third All-Ivy honor.

Stone is having a banner season, setting new personal marks in scoring (9.9), shooting (40.2), and three-point field goal percentage (41.0) while tying her career high in rebounding (3.6). The senior has knocked at least one trey in all but three games this season while pouring in 12 10+ point games including a career-high 20 at No. 6 UConn. This is Stone's second All-Ivy pick.

Princeton, the No. 1 seed in the Ivy Madness Tournament, takes on Penn on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
