Laudenslager Ks 13 as Tigers Return to Top of the Ivy
April 16, 2023 | Softball
Alexis Laudenslager tied a career high with 13 strikeouts as the Princeton softball team closed out its weekend series at Cornell with a 5-3 win Sunday afternoon, closing a half-game deficit with Harvard to pull even atop the Ivy League.
Princeton and Harvard each stand at 12-3 and will have their three-game series next weekend in Princeton with huge implications for the Ivy League title and the hosting duties for the Ivy League Tournament.
Two hits and an error added up to a run for Cornell in the bottom of the first, and it stayed 1-0 for the Big Red until a three-run third inning for the Tigers. Sophia Marsalo started the inning with a double and came home two batters later on a Lauren Sablone sacrifice fly for the tying run, and a Serena Starks single and Grace Jackson being hit by a pitch put two runners on. A wild pitch scored Starks for the go-ahead run, and Julia Dumais had a single to pick up Jackson and make it 3-1.
The teams traded a run each in the fifth and sixth innings. Princeton made it 4-1 when Adrienne Chang picked up a Starks leadoff single, and the three-run lead was back at 5-2 in the sixth when Starks singled home a Pappert leadoff walk.
Laudenslager finished with three runs allowed, two earned, on eight hits and two walks, striking out 13 to equal a career best set in a February game at Liberty. Starks had a three-hit game while Marsalo and Allison Ha had two hits apiece.
