ITHACA – The Princeton Baseball Team swept the Cornell Big Red for the first time since 2006 with its two wins on Saturday.

After Matt Scannell led off the game with a double, Eric Marasheski blasted a two-run home run to open the scoring. Cornell countered with two runs on a wild pitch and RBI single by Joe Hollerbach in its first at-bat.
The Big Red took the lead on a run-scoring hit by John Quinlan in the next frame. In the third stanza, Kyle Vinci evened the score on an RBI knock before Nick DiPietrantonio clobbered a ball over the center field fence to put Princeton ahead, 6-3.
RBI singles for Cornell in the third and fourth frames got the home team back within one, but Brendan Cumming hit a rocket over the left field fence to push the Tigers' advantage back to two, 7-5.
Cumming collected a bases load walk in the sixth stanza to make it 8-5.
Jacob Faulkner came into the game in the fifth inning and did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the ninth. He faced 14 batters and struck out six of them to earn the win.
DiPietrantonio had three hits while Scannell had two for Princeton.

The Tigers wasted no time, scoring two in their first at-bat on an RBI single from Vinci and wild pitch. Two RBI doubles by Marasheski sandwiched a sacrifice fly from Carlos Abello to make it 5-0 through four innings.
A solo home run from Granet made it 6-0 before a grand slam from Vinci put an exclamation mark on the victory for the Tigers.
DiPietrantono finished the scoring with a hustle RBI double on a routine hit to center field.
The game was called in the top of eighth inning because of rain.
Tom Chmielewski threw all seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out nine. He has gone at least seven in five of his last six starts and has lowered his ERA to 3.44 for the season.
Vinci finishes the week with 15 RBI and 47 overall this year which is tied for the fifth most in a single season.
Princeton is now 18-17 overall and 10-5 in the Ivy League, a half-game behind Penn for the conference lead. The Tigers will welcome NJIT to Clarke Field on Wednesday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. before heading to Yale next weekend.
