Tigers Surge In Front as Ivy Championships Head for Final Round

Riccardo Fantinelli will head into the Sunday's final round at the Ivy League Championships leading in the chase for medalist honors, teammate Jackson Fretty will go into Sunday on the momentum of Saturday's round of 66 that tied the course record, and the Princeton men's golf team will go into the final round as the leader following a standout second round at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn.
Six of the seven Ivy teams cut their scores from Friday's round to Saturday's, but none more than Princeton, which carded 7-under to outdo Friday's round by 28 strokes. The next-best improvement came from Yale, which did 16 strokes better than Friday. At +14 for the weekend, Princeton leads second-place Dartmouth by eight strokes with the Ivy League title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA regionals on the line.
Fantinelli and Fretty are in the top two spots on the individual leaderboard, Fantinelli following Friday's 72 with a 2-under 70 and Fretty doing 11 strokes better than Friday with his 6-under 66. Following his lone bogey of the round on the par-five fifth hole, Fretty made seven pars and six of his seven birdies on the day, closing with two on the last three holes including making the par-three 16th hole in two.
Fantinelli stands at -2 for the weekend with Fretty at -1 and Dartmouth's Eli Kimche and Harvard's Brian Ma tied for third at even par.
Play will begin Sunday at 10 a.m. with Princeton beginning to tee off at 11:40 a.m.Â
