No. 2 Men's Lightweight Rowing Collects Goldthwait/Vogel Cups
April 29, 2023 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
CAMBRIDGE – The No. 2 Men's Lightweight Rowing Team is bringing home the Goldthwait/Vogel Cups after taking down No. 4 Yale and No. 5 Harvard on the Charles River.
Princeton's 1V took home the Goldthwait Cup with a thrilling .4-second victory (basically two seats) (5:40.5) over No. 4 Yale (5:40.9). The Tigers' second varsity won an even closer race by .2 seconds (5:43.1) over No. 5 Harvard (5:43.3).
Yale's varsity four (6:53.8), third varsity (5:52.5) and fourth varsity (5:59.6) also collected wins.
Princeton and Yale were tied with 24 points so the 1V's win broke the tie, giving head coach Marty Crotty's crew the Vogel Cup.
"Any time you can win both the first and second varsity races at this regatta you certainly take it regardless of the very slim margins we were able to win by," said Crotty. "We've raced everybody now and that concludes the regular season. We're excited to have one week off before the Sprints so we can finally get some essential prep work in for the championship season. We'll be ready."
The Princeton 1V finished the regular season at 11-1 while the 2V capped off an undefeated regular season at 10-0.
