CHAMPIONS! No. 10 Women's Water Polo Takes Down No. 18 Harvard For CWPA Title

PRINCETON – For the first time since 2015, the No. 10 Princeton Women's Water Polo Team won the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship with a 12-8 takedown over the No. 18 Harvard Crimson on Sunday afternoon.
After Harvard started the game with a goal, the Princeton ran off three straight and held the road team off the scoreboard for almost eight minutes. The Tigers ended the first half with three of the final four goals and held a 6-3 advantage at halftime.
After Kayla Yelensky began the second half with a goal, Harvard recorded two in less than a minute to close the gap to two, 7-5, with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Princeton would put the championship away, ripping off four consecutive tallies top end the stanza, holding a 11-5 advantage. Harvard would not get closer than four the rest of the way.
It's the fifth CWPA crown for the Tigers in program history. It's also the second time that the men and women have won conference championships in the same academic year (2011-12).
Jovana Sekulic was named the CWPA Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring a hat trick in the today's contest. She joins Kayla Yelensky on the All-Tournament First-Team. Lindsey Lucas was honored as the tournament's best rookie while collecting second team honors with Laura Larkin. Derek Ellingson was named Doc Hunkler Coach of the Tournament.
The NCAA bracket will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday around 8 p.m.
