Three Tigers posted under-par rounds as the Ivy League champion Princeton men's golf team closed the NCAA Norman Regional on Wednesday with its best round of the week, finishing at 8-under for the day.
Princeton finished 12th as a team at +5 as Alabama (-28), Oklahoma (-25), Colorado (-23), Texas Tech (-22) and Duke (-21) took the five team spots to advance to the NCAA Championships. The standard for the lone individual bid for the top player not on those five teams was at -9, where Will King of Kansas defeated Hugo Townsend of Ole Miss after eight playoff holes.
William Huang, who had the team's best round of the day on Wednesday at 4-under, finished as the top Tiger, tying for 39th overall at even par. Riccardo Fantinelli, the Ivy medalist and Rookie of the Year, also posted a red number on Wednesday at 3-under, finishing tied for 51st overall at +2. Max Ting tied for 48th in his last tournament as a Tiger, at +1.
Jackson Fretty finished with back-to-back even-par rounds to end his tournament at +7, placing 60th, and senior Max Holm subbed into the lineup for the final round in place of Henry Dubiel, carding a 1-under 71. Both Huang and Holm eagled the par-4 third hole, making it in two. Ting eagled the hole in Monday's first round.
