May 18, 2023 | Baseball
PRINCETON – The Princeton Baseball Team had seven All-Ivy selections, the conference announced today.
Tom Chmielewski and Scott Bandura were unanimous First-Team All-Ivy picks, marking the first All-Ivy selections for Princeton since Jesper Horsted in 2018 and the first unanimous First-Team All-Ivy players since Chad Powers in 2016.
Chmiewlewski won five of his seven Ivy outings, going six innings in all but one of them. He threw at least six frames in seven of his last eight performances, highlighted by a five-hit complete game shutout at Yale with 10 strikeouts. He has 69 punchouts in 67 1/3 innings of work, sporting a 3.21 ERA. His three complete games this season are tied for fifth in the country.
Bandura has been one of the best players in the Ivy League, collecting a .365 average (second among Ivy players) while posting a 1.087 OPS. He has a team-best 41 runs, .452 on-base percentage, 14 steals along with nine home runs and 41 RBI. Bandura is having an all-time season as he's only six hits shy of the program record, six shy of the runs mark and is one of only eight players to ever reach 100 total bases in a season (101).
Kyle Vinci, Matt Scannell (UTL) and Caden Shapiro were second-team honorees for Princeton.
Vinci set the Ivy League record, collecting his 20th home run of the season vs. Brown on May 6th. His 20 four baggers are 17th in the country while his .49 home runs per game are third best in the NCAA. His 57 RBI and 27 extra base hits are the most in program history while his 109 total bases are fourth most and his .669 slugging percentage would be the third highest by a Princeton Tiger ever.
Scannell has been one of the best table setters in the conference, producing an Ivy-best 38 walks. He's produced a .265/.402/.494 slash line along with nine home runs and 30 RBI. Scannell has hits in 15 of his last 16 games with four multi-hit outings, raising his average 35 points during that stretch.
Shapiro is having a banner campaign, corralling career marks in every statistical category. In 41 games, the sophomore outfielder has nabbed 37 hits (.272 aver-age), 31 runs, two home runs and 16 RBI along with a .381 on-base percentage.
Jacob Faulkner and Noah Granet were named Honorable Mention All-Ivy. Jackson Emus was honored with Academic All-Ivy.
Faulkner has been tremendous out of the bullpen, putting up 4.06 ERA in 51 frames. His 23 appearances are one shy of the Princeton record while earning two wins and six saves. He did not allow a run in five Ivy outings led by an impressive 4 1/3 innings of work with six strikeouts at Cornell.
Granet has been lights out in his return from injury. In 20 games, he's hit .351 with 14 RBI and a .545 slugging percentage. He has a hit in 15 of 17 contests since coming back on Apr. 8 at Penn and has scored 15 runs.
Emus has 60 strikeouts in 52 innings of work. He was named Ivy Pitcher of the Week after a seven shutout innings vs. Brown. He also went 6 1/3 innings as the Tigers no-hit Yale earlier this season.
Princeton, the No. 3 seed, takes on No. 2 seed Harvard in the Ivy League Tournament on Friday beginning at 11 a.m.
