NCAA Tournament Opens With Fordham For No. 49 Women's Tennis

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 49 Princeton University women's tennis team opens play at the NCAA Tournament against Fordham in the first round at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 5, in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar's Head Resort.
Making their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, the Tigers will look to advance to the second round for the third-straight season. In 2022 Princeton defeated Army, 4-0, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and in 2021 the Tigers prevailed 4-1 over Northwestern in Seattle, Washington.
Should the Tigers overcome Fordham, they will face No. 11 Virginia or Long Island University on Saturday, May 6.
Princeton won a fourth-straight Ivy League title in 2023, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play and a 16-6 overall record. Senior Daria Frayman, who is ranked No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, was the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year, and a First Team-All Ivy honoree, along with Neha Velaga. Frayman also collected First Team All-Ivy honors in doubles with Grace Joyce, with the duo ranked No. 26 in the ITA doubles rankings.
The Rams, making their first NCAA Tournament appearance, won the Atlantic 10 Championship and have a 14-7 record. Fordham has a 0-3 record against Ivy League teams in 2023, falling 4-0 to Columbia, 4-3 to Yale and 4-3 to Brown.
UVA is ranked No. 11 in the ITA team rankings, and features tree ranked singles players; No. 52 Natasha Subhash, No. 60 Julia Adams and No. 84 Annabelle Xu. In doubles, Julia Adams and Melodie Collard are ranked No. 10, while Subhash and Elaine Chervinsky are ranked No. 30. The Cavaliers have a 18-6 record, and finished Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play with a 10-3 record. Princeton and UVA also met tin the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, with the Cavaliers earning the victory.
LIU, the Northeast Conference (NEC) Champions, have a 12-10 record and went a perfect 4-0 in NEC play.
