Men's Hockey Comes Up Short at #16/17 New Hampshire, 3-1
January 06, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
A third-period goal from No. 16/17 New Hampshire slammed the door on a Princeton comeback in a 3-1 loss for the Tigers at the Whittemore Center in Durham.
Â
Brendan Gorman had a power-play goal for the Tigers, with assists from Noah de la Durantaye and David Jacobs.
Â
The Wildcats got on the board with 2:40 left in the first period via a Morgan Winters power-play goal. With the Tigers on a five-minute penalty kill following a major penalty on Mike Kennedy, the Wildcats put together an extended run of zone time which eventually led to a centering pass banging off Winters' skate and in.
Â
The lead extended to 2-0 early in the second period when J.P. Turner back-handed in a rebound 4:01 into the frame.
Â
Brendan Gorman wired home a power-play goal 8:34 into the second period to cut the deficit in half, scoring Princeton's third PPG of the weekend off assists from Noah de la Durantaye and David Jacobs.
Â
In the third period, Jack Cronin had a prime chance to tie the game early, but his one-timer on the power play in the opening two minutes rang off the crossbar after beating the goalie.
Â
Ryan Conmy regained a two-goal lead for the Wildcats just before the midway mark of the third period when Alex Gagne caught the Tigers in a line change and sent a stretch pass through the neutral zone which sprung Conmy on a breakaway with space to send a snap shot over the shoulder of Arthur Smith.
Â
Up next for the Tigers is a home-and-home with No. 3 Quinnipiac on January 12 (at Quinnipiac) and January 13 (Hobey Baker Rink) at 7 p.m.
