Inchauspe Earns All-American Status At NCAA Individual Championships
November 20, 2024 | Men's Tennis
WACO, Texas- The Tigers kicked off day two in Texas at the NCAA Individual CHampionships. Paul Inchauspe started the day bright and early with a matchup against the tournament's No. 1 seed Sebastian Gornzy out of Texas.
The stage was set and Inchauspe was ready for the challenge. The sophomore picked up a win in the first set 6-2 before Gornzy gained control to win the second 6-3.
Inchauspe then locked in for the third set. The two each exchanged a point before Inchauspe broke Gornzy's serve. That shifted the momentum back in the Princeton Tiger's favor as Inchauspe went on to win the final set 6-2 and advance to the singles Round of 16.
"I knew that he was, of course, a very good player," Inchauspe said. "I just focused on what I could do best and I think it played out pretty well."
By advancing to the Round of 16, Inchauspe earned All-American status, the fifth in Princeton men's tennis program history.
"Obviously I'm extremely, extremely happy," Inchauspe said. "In May I was supposed to play singles and then I had to pull out [at the] last minute because I was injured and that was one of the big goals, and I'm very happy that I was able to achieve that status this year."
The energy was contagious for the Princeton team as Inchauspe and Filippos Astreinidis started their NCAA Doubles Championships campaign. The No. 4 pair ranked by ITA picked up a 6-4, 7-6 win to move on to the doubles Round of 16.
