Women’s Ice Hockey Shuts Out Stonehill 5-0

BRIDGEWATER, MASS.- The Princeton women's ice hockey continued the holiday road trip with the first of two games against the Stonehill Skyhawks. This was the first time the two teams have met as this is the third season since Stonehill moved to Division I.
The first quarter ended locked at 0-0 as both teams battled to get create a spark.
The Tigers came out of the break into the second period with renewed energy as Mia Coene scored her second goal of the season just two minutes into the frame as Lucia DiGirolamo recorded the helper.
Not long after, Princeton was on the power play. Coming into the matchup, the Tigers owned the top success percentage on the power play in the country at 41.7%. Angelina DiGirolamo needed just 13 seconds to find the back of the net for the team's sixteenth power play goal of the season. Sarah Paul and Mackenzie Alexander teamed up for the assists as Princeton took a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers drew another power play at the 14 minute mark. Issy Wunder received the feed in from Paul right before the man advantage ran out to bump the score to 3-0.
Stonehill was unable to gain momentum as Taylor Hyland made nine saves through the first two periods of play.
Alexander continued to wreak havoc on the Skyhawks, opening the final period with a goal for her third point of the contest. Emma Dornseif had the assist on the goal for her second of the year.
Sarah Paul wrapped up the night with a buzzer beater goal on a wide open shot off the passes from Jane Kuehl and Hannah Fetterolf as the Tigers took a 5-0 victory.
Hyland made 11 stops between the pipes for Princeton and Alexander and Paul paced the team with three points each.
The team will be back at the Bridgewater Ice Arena for the second game of the series against the Skyhawks with puck drop set for 1:00 PM.
