#12/12 Women's Hockey Comes Up Just Short To #7/6 St. Lawrence
February 10, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
#12/12 Princeton jumped out to a 1-0 lead via a power-play goal from Sarah Filler, but the visiting #7/6 St. Lawrence Saints rallied with the game's final three goals as the Tigers suffered a 3-1 defeat at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Tigers outshot the Saints, 35-27, and out-chanced the visitors, 72-54. In the end, the Saints won the special teams battle -- going 2-for-3 on the power play while Princeton was 0-for-5
It was Senior Day for Princeton's seven seniors and Fillier -- one of the most decorated players in program history -- started the day off on the right foot with her 20th goal of the season. She hopped on a loose puck deep in Princeton's end and broke free down the right wall before snapping a quick shot over the goalie's blocker and in with 8:07 expired in the second period.
The Saints would connect on a second PPG before the end of the middle frame, Kristina Bahl giving St. Lawrence a 2-1 lead with 4:01 remaining before the second intermission.
In the third period, the Saints tacked on an insurance goal off the stick of Kennedy Wilson 7:27 into the period. The Tigers took 25 shots in the third period, but only five reached goal and all were turned away.
The Tigers, who have secured home ice for the First Round of the 2024 ECAC Championships, conclude the regular season next weekend with a trip to Union (Feb. 16; 6 p.m.) and RPI (Feb. 17; 3 p.m.)
