No. 12 Princeton Battles No. 3 Clarkson to OT Defeat
February 09, 2024 | Women's Ice Hockey
Scoreless through 62-plus minutes, Friday night's visit from No. 3 Clarkson to the No. 12-ranked Princeton women's hockey team at Hobey Baker Rink ended when the Golden Knights' Nicole Gosling took advantage of a power play and threaded a shot through the slot and inside the right post to deliver a 1-0 victory to the visitors.
Tiger netminder Uma Corniea stopped the first 27 shots she faced while counterpart Michelle Pasiechnyk stopped all 27 Tiger shots on goal.
The overtime saw three penalties called, first coincidental minors issued to Princeton's Sarah Fillier and Clarkson's Anne Cherkowski 42 seconds into the extra frame, and with 2:59 to go, Princeton's Issy Wunder was whistled for a trip, giving Clarkson the power play it cashed in 24 seconds later with the Gosling goal.
Despite the loss, Princeton ensured it would host the first round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament on Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. with the Tigers' opponent to be determined over the last three regular-season dates.
Princeton will return to play Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. start against No. 7/6 St. Lawrence. The team will recognize its senior class of Kate Monihan, Stefanie Wallace, Annie Kuehl, Catherine Kerin, Sarah Fillier, Daniella Calabrese and Emma Kee following the game.
