Softball Splits First Day in Orlando

The win lifted Princeton to 5-0 for the first time in program history before the Knights handed Princeton their first loss of the new season.
Against Bethune-Cookman, Princeton got on the board in the second inning as Sophia Marsalo used a base hit to pick up a leadoff Sonia Zhang walk, and the Tigers added two more in the third to get to 3-0. Allison Ha led off the inning with a double and came home two batters later on a Zhang squeeze, and after a Lauren Sablone base hit, Zhang came home on a double steal helped by an error.
Bethune-Cookman got a run back in each of the fourth and fifth innings, but Princeton scored twice in the fifth to regain the three-run lead. Graciela Dominguez had a leadoff single, and two batters later, Marsalo walked to put two on for Abby Hornberger, whose base hit and a misplay in the field drove both home for the 5-2 lead.
Molly Chambers got the win, going 4 2/3 innings with two runs allowed on seven hits and a walk, striking out four, and Meghan Harrington got the save, going 2 1/3 innings with just a hit allowed, striking out two.Â
Against UCF, Princeton saw the Knights jump ahead with six runs in the second and three in the third, taking that 9-0 lead into the fifth before Princeton got on the board with a pair of runs. Dominguez led off the inning with a double and came home when Marsalo traded places with her. Grace Jackson's infield single picked up Marsalo for the second run.Â

UCF ended the game early with a run in the bottom of the fifth.Â
Princeton will face Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. Saturday before a rematch with UCF at 2 p.m.
