March 02, 2024 | Softball
Kennesaw State and UCF dealt the Princeton softball team defeats on Saturday in Orlando as the Tigers continued play in the UCF Knights Classic.
In Kennesaw State's 5-1 win, the Owls had a run in the top of the first before Princeton got the run back in the bottom half of the inning as Julia Dumais and Lauren Sablone led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. KSU added a run in the third, two in the fourth and its final run in the seventh on the way to the win. Dumais, Sablone and Sophia Marsalo split the Tigers' three hits, and Cassidy Shaw (3 2/3 innings), Brielle Wright (three innings) and Molly Chambers (1/3 of an inning) split time in the circle.
Princeton took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first against UCF, getting three straight hits from Sablone, Allison Ha and Karis Ford, with Ford doubling home Sablone for the first run. An unsuccessful fielder's choice off Marsalo's bat brought home Ha for the second run, and Cate Bade, running for Ford, then came home on a wild pitch.
UCF got two of the runs back in the bottom of the first before taking the lead during a three-run second inning and adding to it with a six-run fourth, ending the game after five with the 11-3 lead.
Sablone, Ha, Ford and Marsalo split the team's four hits, and Meghan Harrington (3 1/3 innings), Chambers (1/3 of an inning) and Shaw (1/3 of an inning) split timeÂ
Princeton will play its final game of the weekend on Sunday at 9 a.m. against No. 22-ranked South Carolina.
