Angel City FC Draftee Curry Signs With NWSL's L.A. Club
March 13, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Two months after hearing her name called by Angel City FC at the 2024 NWSL Draft, Southern California native Madison Curry made it official on Tuesday, signing with the Los Angeles-based club.
"I could not be more pleased for Madi to earn her first professional contract with Angel City," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "While being selected in the draft was a fantastic moment and recognition of a terrific career, it was not a guarantee of a roster spot in the talent-laden squad assembled in Los Angeles. From then, it became about the characteristics that have set Madi apart beginning more than seven years ago when (Associate Head Coach) Mike (Poller) and I started recruiting her, which are a fantastic skill set and defensive prowess coupled with her unmistakably competitive mindset and relentless approach to the game. This is a wonderful moment for Madi, her family, our program, and the Ivy League. I can't wait to see her in Angel City colors and I know the ACFC supporters will be immediate fans of hers the minute she steps onto the field."
Curry earned United Soccer Coaches third-team All-American honors this past season in helping lead Princeton to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Playing in 51 games across three competitive seasons as a Tiger, Curry started 48 of those, scoring three goals and adding four assists while taking part in 24 shutouts as a regular on the Tiger back line. Â
Once Curry makes her professional debut, she would become the fifth Tiger to play in the NWSL, alongside Tyler Lussi '17, currently of the North Carolina Courage, and NWSL alumnae Lauren Lazo '15, Jen Hoy '13 and Diana Matheson '08.Â
Angel City's season opener is March 17 at home against San Jose-based Bay FC.
