Morrisroe Ties School Record For Goals In A Game In 23-10 Win At Brown
April 13, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
It was all Princeton early and often at Stevenson-Pincince Field as the No. 17-ranked Tigers defeated No. 25 Brown, 23-10, in Rhode Island.
Â
Princeton (8-4, 4-1 Ivy) sits alone in second place in the Ivy League and with the win has secured its berth in the 2024 Ivy League Tournament set for the first weekend of May.
Â
First-year Meg Morrisroe had one of the best days in program history by an attacker, scoring eight goals – more than doubling up her career total of six tallied through her previous nine games.
Â
Rhode Island native Kari Buonanno had four points in her final game in her home state, scoring twice and adding two assists.
Â
The 17 goals scored by the Tigers in the first half were more than all but three of Princeton's full games this season.
Â
As a team, Princeton won 24 draws which was just two off the school record for draw controls in a game. That led to a considerable possession advantage for the Tigers who had 23 goals while Brown managed just 28 total shots in the game.
Â
On Alumni Day for the Bears, Brown showed some quick energy with a goal 0:35 into the game. That was pretty much all the excitement that the home squad had in the first half as the Tigers responded with five in a row to take a 5-1 lead and never looked back.
Â
All total, there were 15 goals in the first quarter and Princeton scored nine of them – six coming via free positions.
Â
The Bears hung around, closing to within three goals at the end of the opening period, but it was all Princeton in the second quarter as the Tigers outscored the Bears, 8-1, in the second stanza.
Â
Blake was involved throughout the quarter, scoring three times to finish with five in the opening half. After the Bears scored with 10:28 remaining in the second quarter, Princeton scored the remaining six goals of the half – with five different goal scorers finding the back of the net – including Kari Buonanno who scored with 0:09 left in the half to provide the 10-goal lead at the break.
Â
Morrisroe would counter with two more of her own before the end of the third quarter for a 21-9 Princeton lead.
Â
In the final frame, Colette Quinn and Morrisroe each had a free position goal early as the Tigers built a 23-9 lead before a late tally from the Bears provided the final margin.
