Scoring
Princeton set the tone for its defense of the Ivy League title with a -2 (282) as a team to open the 2024 Ivy League Championship at Watchung Valley GC. That score has the Tigers four shots ahead of Columbia and in the lead after the opening day of play. Two more rounds await the teams, with second round play set to tee off at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Only six of the 35 players competing finished under par in the first round, and two were Tigers. All five Tigers are inside the Top-18 right now -- the only school with all five players among that group.
William Huang paced the Tigers, firing an opening round 68 (-3) to finish the day in second place. Huang had five birdies in his first round, including one at the last to end his day on a high note.
Defending Ivy medalist Riccardo Fantinelli had a hot start, carding birdies on 3, 4, and 6 to reach -2 in the early goings. A bogey on 14 ended a run of seven straight pars and he finished the first round at -1.
