Women's Lacrosse Dominates Dartmouth On Senior Day
April 20, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
A first quarter for the ages was more than enough for No. 17 Princeton to ensure a proper Senior Day celebration in a 17-11 win over Dartmouth.
The Tigers (9-5, 5-1 Ivy) scored nine goals in the first quarter – the only nine goals either team scored in the opening period – for a commanding 9-0 lead over the Big Green (7-6, 1-5) which ballooned to a 15-3 advantage at halftime. The Big Green made things a bit closer in the second half, but the end result was never in doubt.
Grace Tauckus had four goals on Senior Day, while junior McKenzie Blake also had four goals. Samantha DeVito scored twice on her Senior Day, adding an assist while causing three turnovers and picking up three ground balls.
Olivia Koch came off the bench to score her first collegiate goal off a bouncer shot in the third quarter.
Defensively, senior Caroline Burnett was a stopper all game long, while Abbie Wilhelm (2 CTs, 1 GB), Sammy Filippi (3 GBs), Ellie Mueller (2 DCs), and Taylor DeGroff (1 CT) each factored in as the Tigers clamped down all day long.
Tauckus got things started just 0:24 in, gathering a quick feed from Dora and scoring off the opening draw for a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth had the better of the second half, but all that did was keep the game within double figures. Koch scored in the third quarter to set off a raucous celebration from the Tigers' bench as she netted her first collegiate goal.
In the fourth quarter, Sophie Whiteway added Princeton's final goal via a bounce shot down the middle.
Princeton, who had already secured its spot in the 2024 Ivy League Tournament to be held May 3-5, will conclude the regular season on April 27 at Harvard. Opening draw with the Crimson is set for 12 p.m.
