April 24, 2024 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. - Over the weekend, the Princeton men's soccer team hosted its yearly banquet to celebrate the previous season, recognize the graduating seniors, and present three awards to the most deserving players. Here are the recipients of this year's distinctive program honors.
The David S. Hackett Memorial Soccer Cup (MVP) - Ryan Winkler
Awarded annually to the member of the Princeton soccer team whose enthusiasm, discipline and leadership contributed most to the team and the sport of soccer at Princeton.
Myslik Award - Francis Akomeah
Annually awarded to the member of the Princeton men's soccer team who most demonstrates the passion for life, the fiery competitiveness, the unwavering honesty and the selfless generosity of Rob Myslik.
Dr. William Trevor Trophy - Whit Gamblin
Awarded annually to the member of the Princeton men's soccer team who has shown the greatest improvement in the quality of play and attitude during the season.
"This year's graduating class includes players who started their careers in the 2019 and 2020 seasons," said head coach Jim Barlow. "In 2021, all six were part of the Ivy League championship team which put together just the second undefeated Ivy campaign in school history and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. But all 6 went through some extremely difficult times at Princeton. Whether it be Covid and missing a year on campus, long-term injuries and surgeries, tragic personal losses, this group endured a ton. Yet under the leadership of Ryan and Francis as captains, these guys continued to empty the tank. Their efforts were tremendous, and it was great to celebrate them at the banquet on Sunday."
