Zhang Named to National Top-25 Freshman List
April 25, 2024 | Softball
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has selected Tiger rookie Sonia Zhang as one of the top 25 freshmen in all of Division I, the organization announced on Thursday.
The top 10 freshmen will be announced on May 9 with the three finalists announced two weeks later and the winner revealed on May 28.Â
Zhang is leading the Tigers with a .413 batting average, and if she finishes the season at .400 or better, she'd become the first Tiger since 2017 to finish a full-length season at .400 or better. No Tiger freshman has finished a full season hitting .400.
Zhang also leads Princeton in runs scored (34), slugging percentage (.674), on-base percentage (.526) and stolen bases (13).Â
Zhang is second in the Ivy in batting average, fourth in slugging percentage, tops in on-base percentage, second in OPS (1.200), first in runs scored, eighth in hits (38), tied for first in triples (three), tied for ninth in walks (15), and second in stolen bases (13).Â
Zhang's season has helped the Tigers stand atop the Ivy League with an 11-4 league record heading into this weekend's home series against Brown.
