Tigers Take Sunday Pair to Sweep Weekend at Columbia
March 29, 2026 | Softball
Continuing its strong start to Ivy League play Sunday, the Princeton softball team rallied in both games to complete a doubleheader sweep at Columbia, 2-1 in Sunday's first game and 4-2 in the nightcap.
The Tigers (16-9, 6-0 Ivy) broke through in the third inning of Game 2, scoring three runs with Graciela Dominguez getting an RBI single, Julia Dumais dropping one into centerfield to push across another run, and a Karis Ford double two batters later driving in the third.
Columbia (10-16, 2-4 Ivy) cut the deficit to one on a solo home run in the fifth, but Princeton responded in the seventh. Sonia Zhang singled and later scored on a Dumais RBI double to provide a key insurance run and extend the lead to 4-2.
Cassidy Shaw delivered a complete-game performance in the circle, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven and issuing no walks to earn the win.
Princeton's offense finished with 11 hits, paced by Abby Hornberger's 3-for-3 day and multi-hit efforts from Dominguez and Dumais.
The Tigers carried that late-game execution over from the opener, where Princeton scored twice in the seventh inning to secure a 2-1 victory. Julieta Roa and Jessica Phelps each had a fielder's-choice RBI to push the runs across in an inning that saw Princeton reach the first three batters on a Dominguez double, a Dumais walk and a Ford single.
Reece Uehara went 6 1/3 in the circle, allowing the one run on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout before Brielle Wright got the save, allowing just a walk and striking out two.
Princeton will step away from Ivy League play with a single game at Lehigh on Wednesday before hosting Brown in an Ivy series next weekend.
