Softball Completes Weekend Sweep of Cornell to Open Ivy Season
March 22, 2026 | Softball
Closed out a weekend sweep of Cornell to open the Ivy League season, the Princeton softball team turned in an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings on Sunday afternoon at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field.
After a quiet first inning, Princeton broke through in the second. Karis Ford led off with a double, and Julieta Roa followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Maddie Ratcheson drove in the game's first run with a groundout, and Jessica Phelps added an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Princeton extended the lead in the third with a three-run inning. Roa delivered the key swing, lining a two-run single to left to score Sonia Zhang and Julia Dumais. Mia Valenzuela followed with an RBI single of her own, pushing the advantage to 5-0.
The Tigers added insurance in the fifth to trigger the run rule. Roa and Ratcheson each contributed in the inning, and Princeton capitalized on continued offensive pressure to plate three more runs and secure the 8-0 final.
Roa led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, two runs scored, and two RBI. Ford added a pair of hits, including a double and a home run over the course of the game, while Ratcheson and Valenzuela each drove in a run.
In the circle, Reece Uehara was dominant. The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits while keeping Cornell off the scoreboard throughout. She improved to 6-1 on the season.
With the first weekend in the books, Princeton will take its first Ivy road trip of the spring next weekend, heading to Columbia.
