Yelensky's Four Goals Helps No. 11 Women's Water Polo Advance To CWPA Championship

CAMBRIDGE – The No. 11 Princeton Women's Water Polo Team took down the No. 24 Brown Bears in the CWPA Semifinals, 9-7, at Blodgett Pool.
Princeton rushed out with three straight goals to begin the contest highlighted by two goals from Kayla Yelensky. Brown answered with three consecutive tallies over the final three minutes of the quarter to tie the score at 3-all.
Shanna Davidson and Yelensky countered with the first two goals of the second stanza, but Brown stayed close, trailing 6-5 at the break.
Hanna Tidrenezel registered the first two goals of the second half for Brown, tying the contest at 6-all and 7-all. Yelensky's fourth tally of the semifinal made it 8-7 as the third frame wrapped up.
The fourth quarter was a defensive affair as Kaila Carroll corralled the only goal as Princeton pitched a shutout to secure the win.
Head coach Derek Ellingson's group will play for its second consecutive CWPA championship on Sunday at 12 p.m. vs. the No. 13 Michigan Wolverines. Princeton defeated the Wolverines twice in the regular season and seeks its sixth conference crown.
