Curry, Estes, Nagai Earn Women's Soccer Team Awards
May 13, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Estes received the Kathy Kobler Garrett '91 Award, given each year in recognition of the player whose generosity, positive attitude, genuine consideration for others, and quiet energy make her essential to the success of the team.Â
Estes was a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree and the team's 2023 Academic All-Ivy League honoree. She served as a team captain as a senior in 2023, finishing her Princeton career with six goals and six assists for 18 points across 49 games played over her three competitive seasons with the program, making 30 starts. Having arrived at Princeton for the 2020-21 academic year where there was no fall competition in 2020, Estes, from Washington state, will use her final year of eligibility closer to the Pacific Northwest at Montana.
"Jen's ability to connect with every member of the team was evident from her arrival at Princeton and continued throughout her career," Princeton coach Sean Driscoll said. "She made a conscious effort to get to know her teammates and placed an equal value on their respective roles within the team. In addition, numerous people across the campus community have lauded Jen's infectious personality and her unwavering commitment to serve others. The University of Montana is gaining a special human being and student-athlete that will improve their quality on the field and undoubtedly enhance their team culture."
Curry and Nagai share the Women's Soccer Award, given to the team's most valuable player as voted by their teammates.Â
Curry capped her Princeton career with a United Soccer Coaches third-team All-American honor to go with a third first-team All-Ivy League award and a second United Soccer Coaches all-region recognition. Curry was a regular on a Princeton back line that had 24 shutouts in games she played over her career. Curry played in 51 games across three competitive seasons, making 48 starts while adding three goals and four assists for 10 points. The NWSL's Angel City FC selected Curry in January, and through her first seven games with the club, Curry has made six starts, playing 506 minutes and scoring a goal.
Nagai earned All-Ivy League honors in all three of her competitive seasons with the program, closing with first-team recognition in 2023. Across 55 games with Princeton and 42 starts, Nagai scored two goals and added six assists for 10 points. A two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, Nagai, like Estes, arrived at Princeton for the 2020-21 academic year and will use her final year of eligibility at North Carolina.
"Madi and Aria have been pillars of consistency and excellence throughout their careers," Driscoll said. "From their respective first training sessions, they elevated the standard because of their combination of technical ability, IQ, competitive drive, and work rate. Our staff and team quickly learned that we were going to get their best effort every day. While they constantly caught the attention and appreciation of fans and opposing coaches, what I admired most was their fearlessness and unmistakable grit. They both shone brightest in the most challenging of circumstances and in those moments their true greatness was revealed. We are currently seeing Madi continue to thrive at the professional level with Angel City FC and Aria will, most certainly, do the same at the University of North Carolina in the fall."
