Louisiana Takes Regional Opener from Softball Team

Host Louisiana, the No. 13 seed in the NCAA tournament, took the regional opener from the Princeton softball team 8-0 on Friday in five innings.
Louisiana scored four first-inning runs on a walk, three hits and a sacrifice fly. The third inning saw Louisiana load the bases on a hit batter and two walks, and though a double play got Princeton closer to ending the inning, a three-run Denali Loecker home run made it 7-0. An error and a double in the fifth pushed across the eighth run to end it early.
Princeton's two hits came on a Karis Ford leadoff single in the second and a Sophia Marsalo one-out single in the fifth. Meghan Harrington started in the circle for Princeton, going two innings before yielding to Molly Chambers to start the third. Cassidy Shaw finished the third and went the rest of the way.Â
Princeton will face Ole Miss in a 5:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. local time game on Saturday in the double-elimination format.
