Tom George '18 Moves On To Olympic Semifinals

A second Olympic experience opened in fine fashion for Tom George '18 as he stroked Great Britain to a win in the heats of the Men's Pair to move on to the A/B semifinals on July 31.
George, a 2020 bronze medalist in the 8+, and his teammate Oliver Wynne-Griffith were second after the first 500 meters, but rallied to lead at the halfway mark and never looked back to finish first in 6:33.88. South Africa was second -- almost three seconds behind the British crew -- and Germany was five seconds behind in third to secure the other two transfer spots to the A/B semis.
Great Britain was fifth-fastest overall across the three heats, with Heat 1 providing all four of the faster times. Spain was first overall among the 13 teams entered, finishing in 6:32.28 in a very close race that saw the top four finishers separated by 0.43 seconds.
