Tournament No. 2 for the Princeton men's golf team takes the Tigers down to Durham this coming weekend for the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke at Duke University GC September 22-23.
The Tigers are coming off a season-opening performance at the Howard/USF Intercollegiate two weeks ago that was record-setting in nature to the tune of a program-record 54-hole low score of 828 which was 15 strokes ahead of second-place Loyola (MD). Riccardo Fantinelli was medalist at the tournament to pick up his fourth career win in 16 career starts. He was -10 for the tournament, setting a program-best of his own with a 54-hole score of 200.
Last year, the Tigers were seventh at the Rod Myers Intercollegiate. Fantinelli was the top finisher for Princeton, claiming eighth place (-2). In addition to Fantinelli, three other of Princeton's expected competitors this coming weekend were in the lineup last year -- Charlie Palmer (T21; +4), William Huiang (T26; +5) and Tommy Frist (T47; +11). The only newcomer to the lineup this weekend is freshman Reed Greyserman who will be competing at the same course his older brother, Max, called home during his four-year career at Duke before embarking on his PGA Tour career.
The Tigers will be taking on a field featuring 12 total teams. In addition to Princeton and the host Blue Devils, other teams entered include Liberty, High Point, Cincinnati, UNC-Wilmington, Virginia Tech, Florida Gulf Coast, UNC-Charlotte, N.C. State and UNC-Greensboro.
