WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Princeton men's soccer team fell to Georgetown 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. With the loss, Georgetown improves to 4-2-3 on the season while Princeton falls to 2-3.
"We had a tough start to the game today, conceding just a minute in, and we couldn't really get going until the second half. However, I thought we were solid throughout the second half, and we had a few chances to tie the game. Unfortunately we didn't get the result, but I'm proud of the effort from the team today." - Head Coach Jim Barlow
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hoyas struck early, with Matthew Van Horn sneaking a ball from Max Viera past the hands of Tiger keeper Khamari Hadaway just 46 seconds into the match.
Georgetown continued to be all offense, pressing with a shot from Mitchell Baker in the 12th minute forcing Hadaway to come up with a big save.
As the Tigers started to settle into the game, Will Francis and Jack Jasinski registereds shots on goal, but were not able to get past Hoya keeper Tenzing Manske. With seven minutes left in the first half, a corner kick resulted in the ball bouncing near the goal line, but Issa Mudashiru couldn't quite tap the ball in, letting the 1-0 score stand at the half.
Coming out of halftime, the Hoyas kept up the offensive pressure, forcing Hadaway to come up with another big stop as Baker registered another shot in the 47th minute.
As Princeton gained momentum in the second half, the Kelley brothers connected in the 53rd minute to send the ball in towards the goal, but Manske was able to collect it.
The end to end battle continued, the Tigers and the Hoyas each worked to generate chances, but Princeton could not find an equalizer as shots from Nico Nee and James Wangsness were blocked and saved by Manske.
Princeton kept the energy up, pushing for a goal in the last four minutes, but it could not find the back of the net.
With just 13 seconds remaining in the game, Hoya Jack Heaps got space in the Tigers' defensive third and sent the ball past Hadaway, bringing the final score to 2-0 Georgetown.
