Ittycheria's Brace Sends #5 Princeton Past Columbia, 2-0
October 18, 2025 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. – Led by a brace from Daniel Ittycheria, the #5 Princeton downed Columbia, 2-0, on Saturday in Roberts Stadium.
With the win, Princeton improves to 10-1-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Ivy League, while Columbia falls to 1-6-4 and 0-3-1 in the league.
"It was another tough game against a good opponent. In the first part of the game, we lost Giuliano and Freddy stepped up, secured the back line and helped get a shutout against a team that had us under pressure at points of the game," said Head Coach Jim Barlow. "We couldn't solve them early until we got the break with the penalty kick, but in the second half we started to have more urgency on our passes and some dangerous runs up front. I thought the game opened up after the ball from Bardia to Danny that led to the Columbia red card, and we were able to find the second goal and secure the win."
How It Happened
The Tigers came out pressing early, earning three corner kicks within the first five minutes as they kept play in the attacking end.
Despite creating chances, the Tigers' first shot on goal did not come until the 21st minute, when Bardia Hormozi sent a shot that deflected off the hands of Columbia keeper Dean Kelliher. Picking up the rebound, Jack Jasinski sent another shot in, but Kelliher was there to collect again.
As the Tigers continued to press, a handball in the box resulted in a penalty kick. Ittycheria stepped to the spot, and buried the ball in the bottom right of the net to put Princeton up 1-0 (31')
Heading towards halftime, Columbia picked up the energy, taking three shots that went wide before the first half expired with the 1-0 score.
Coming out of the break, the Tigers upped their own urgency as they looked for another goal. Just a minute and a half in, Hormozi forced a diving save from Kelliher on a shot he launched to the left of the net.
Sam Vigilante was dangerous pushing up front, tallying a total of six shots and two on goal throughout the contest, and hitting the crossbar in the 67th minute.
In the 74th minute, it looked like the Tigers would find another goal as a ball from Hormozi found Ittycheria up front, heading towards a 1v1 with Kelliher. However, Columbia's Jack McDaid fouled Ittycheria, resulting in a red card that would force the Lions to play the rest of the match down.
The Tigers were relentless from that point on, peppering Kelliher with shots as they forced three saves in the next three minutes.
In the 86th minute, Ian Nunez sent a cross over to Ittycheria on the right. Ittycheria threaded the needle, sending the ball into the lower right of the net out of the reach of Kelliher to make it 2-0 Princeton.
