Seniors Shine In 4-2 Win Over Brown In Courtney Kessel’s First Win As Head Coach
October 24, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Princeton women's hockey kicked off ECAC play with a game against the Brown Bears, looking for the team's first win of the 2025-26 season.
The score sat at 2-2 in the third period. Princeton had tried not once but twice to gain a strong advantage over the Brown Bears with 10 minutes remaining in the contest. The Bears had the puck in their offensive zone and took a big swing and miss before Jane Kuehl picked it up. Kuehl made the pass across to Katherine Khramtsov sprinting up the ice and followed the play. Khramtsov then made the pass back to Kuehl. Kuehl scored the go-ahead tally on the one-timer to put Princeton ahead for good.
Issy Wunder got the scoring started for the Tigers with a goal in the halfway through the first period. Mackenzie Alexander had the puck to the left of the Bears' goal with Emerson O'Leary following closely behind. O'Leary shot the puck in towards the net and Issy Wunder finished it off to put Princeton up 1-0.
Princeton earned a power play and aimed to add to their advantage, but Brown had other plans. Monique Lyons found the back of the goal for a short-handed score to tie things at one apiece.
The second period followed a similar pattern to the first. Wunder had the puck just in front of the net and pushed it towards the goalie as a scrum broke out to gain possession. O'Leary won the battle and scored to take back the lead for the Tigers.
Once again, the Bears had an answer, with Margot Norehad evening the score on a powerplay goal.
With the Kuehl goal as the difference maker, Brown pulled their goalie for the extra attacker as time winded down. After a shot from the Bears and a stop from Taylor Hyland, Mackenzie Alexander received the pass from Kuehl and scored the empty netter to ice the game, 4-2.
The win gives the Tigers their first victory of the season along with Courtney Kessel her first win as Princeton head coach.
Alexander, Wunder, O'Leary and Kuehl each recorded two points in the contest and Hyland made 22 saves in goal. Khramtsov added a point on an assist on a strong night for the senior class.
Princeton will head to Yale to take on the Bulldogs tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
