December 11, 2025 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton coaching staff of Jim Barlow, Steve Totten, Sam Maira, and Tom Moffat were named Northeast Regional Coaching Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches.
This is the second time the squad has been named Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, last earning the award in 2018.
The award comes after Head Coach Barlow, Associate Coach Totten, and assistant coaches Maira and Moffat led the Tigers to an incredible, record-breaking 2025 season. Going 15-2-2, the Tigers were undefeated Ivy League Champions and Ivy League Tournament Champions.
The 7-0 Ivy League campaign marked the program's third all-time. Remarkably, the Tigers did not allow a single goal during conference play, marking a first in Ivy League history.
Marking another league first, the Tigers became the first team to win both the Ivy League Championship and the Ivy League Tournament in the same season. The tournament win marked Princeton's second-consecutive, after it won the 2024 tournament championship with its first appearance in the ILT.
The Tigers' 15 wins this year marked a program record. They also set a new program record for longest unbeaten streak, going 16 games without a loss between Sept. 9 and Nov. 23.
Princeton was highly recognized in the Ivy League's postseason awards, with Daniel Ittycheria claiming Offensive Player of the Year and Andrew Samuels claiming Defensive Player of the Year.
Samuels, mentored by goalkeeper coach Maira, led the country in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts at the conclusion of the regular season, allowing just four goals across 16 games. Samuels set a new program record for most shutouts in a single season, ending the year with 12.
After winning the Ivy League Tournament, Samuels was named the Most Outstanding Player while three other Tigers made the All-Tournament Team.
Princeton was also named the Ivy League Coaching Staff of the Year, last winning the award in 2021.
Making more history, the Tigers were seeded third in the NCAA Tournament, marking the program's 13th appearance all-time and the highest seed ever by an Ivy League team. Ultimately, though, the season ended with a 2-1 loss to Duke in the second round.
The Tiger coaching staff is one of the most experienced in the nation. This season marked Barlow's 29th season at the helm of the program. Totten, associate head coach, is in his 18th year with the Tigers. Moffat and Maira have 19 and five seasons with the Tigers, respectively.
During his tenure, Barlow has coached Princeton to three perfect Ivy League seasons, seven Ivy League Championships and eight NCAA appearances.
Barlow, a Princeton alum himself, graduated in 1991 as a star player for the Tigers. He was the 1987 Rookie of the Year and 1990 Ivy League Player of the Year.
Continuing his legacy as head coach, Barlow posts a career record of 237-184-72.
