Tagliente, Rizzo, Harris, Gillern Honored As NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Staff Of The Year
December 05, 2025 | Field Hockey
The Princeton field hockey coaching staff found itself at 4-3 after seven games, with a loss to Harvard that would certainly mean no repeat of the Ivy League championship. The task at this point was not an easy one.
Â
Would the 2025 season be remembered as a disappointment? As it turned out, the opposite is true. It would be the second overtime of the NCAA Final before Princeton would lose again, making this one of the greatest seasons in Princeton history.
Â
Princeton's staff — head coach Carla Tagliente, associate head coach Dina Rizzo and assistant coaches Pat Harris and Pattie Gillern — have been honored for the job they did this year by being named the NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Coaching Staff of the Year. The Tiger leaders will now be among the finalists for the national honor, which will be announced in January.
Â
Â
Princeton finished the season at 18-4 overall, avenging that loss to Harvard with wins in the Ivy tournament final and then the NCAA semifinals while handing the Crimson their only two losses of the year. The Tigers won 14 straight games between that 4-3 start and the NCAA Final 2-1 loss to Northwestern, a run that was the longest single-season winning streak in program history.
Â
Princeton started four freshmen and four sophomores in the NCAA championship game.
Â
The NFHCA awards calendar continues with the upcoming announcements of Regional Players of the Year (Dec. 11), the All-American teams (Dec. 16) and the National Player of the Year (Dec. 18).
