LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Eligh Rivera and Ty Whalen took second and third place in their respective weight classes as the Princeton wrestling team closed out competition at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Rivera claimed silver in the 149 class after advancing to the semifinals with a win over #3 Lachlan McNeil in yesterday's quarterfinal.
Going for a second-straight ranked win, Rivera took on #4 Jacob Frost in the semifinal, beginning the scoring with a takedown less than a minute into the match. Continuing to score, Rivera added two more takedowns while conceding zero. With a final score of 11-4, Rivera punched his ticket to the 149 final.
There, he fell to #9 Jaxon Joy of Cornell, claiming second place.
Whalen's road to bronze came after a loss to #4 Joey Blaze of Purdue in the 165 semifinal.
Working his way back in consolation, Whalen defeated Columbia's Cesar Alvan. After conceding a takedown in the first period, Whalen nabbed two escapes and a takedown of his own, adding a point for riding time for a 6-4 decision.
In the third place match, Whalen again faced Aiden Riggins, whom he defeated with a 5-2 decision in yesterday's quarterfinal. This time, Whalen started the scoring early and kept going, getting three takedowns as he worked his way to an 11-2 major decision to claim third.
