Men's Hockey Drops Weekend Opener At RPI
February 14, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
A tie game through two periods broke in favor of RPI in the third as special teams factored in as the Engineers scored twice in the first six minutes of the final period en route to a 4-1 win.
The Engineers scored a power play goal in the first minute of the third and then added a goal just as a Princeton power play had expired to take a 3-1 lead.
An empty-netter with 3:02 from the Engineers added further insurance.
Luc Pelletier scored for the Tigers, Kevin Anderson had the assist. Ethan Pearson made 27 saves.
Princeton's shot advantage reached 18-5 before the Engineers slipped in the game's first goal 4:04 into the second period. Jakob Lee netted the goal, funneling in a loose puck after Pearson had poked away a Felix Caron attempt in front.
The Tigers evened the game up before the second period completed with a perfectly executed 1-on-1 between Luc Pelletier and Kevin Anderson with a saucer pass from Anderson finding its way to a one-timer from Pelletier to knot the contest up at 1-1 with 3:45 to play in the middle frame.
RPI capitalized on a power-play goal 0:47 into the third period to take a 2-1 lead when Jagger Tapper one-timed in a pass to the slot.
The Engineers extended their lead to 3-1 5:48 into the third when Dovar Tinling was sprung on a breakaway and had his shot slip through Pearson just as a Princeton power play was expiring.
Pelletier appeared to get the Tigers back to within one via a power-play goal with 11:32 to play, but the play was deemed to be offside after a video review challenge by RPI.
Princeton concludes its trip to the Empire State on February 15, taking on Union at Messa Rink with a 6 p.m. faceoff.
