A historic debut is set for Catherine Rao as she tees up at the Augusta National Women's Amateur April 2-5 in Augusta, Ga. as the first-every Ivy Leaguer to compete in the tournament.
The 72 top women's amateur golfers in the world are gathered in famed Augusta for the sixth installment of the tournament first held in 2019. The first 36 holes will be played over two rounds at Champions Retreat Golf Club before the field is cut to the top 30 golfers and ties who will play the final round on April 5th at Augusta National Golf Club.
Rao enters the tournament currently ranked No. 38 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She has two wins this season, claiming medalist honors at the Nittany Lion Invitational and Columbia Classic events, while also picking up a runner-up finish at the Princeton Invitational and a T4 at the Yale Invitational. In five events this season, she has finished no lower than T14 and has shot 70 or better in nine of 15 rounds played.
Rao is no stranger to elite amateur events. She has reached the quarterfinals of match play at the past two U.S. Women's Amateurs (2023, 2024) and has reached the quarterfinals of one British Amateur (2023) and advanced to the round of 16 at another (2024).
Already named to the Watch List for the 2025 ANNIKA Award, Rao was a preseason third-team All-America selection by Golfweek Magazine and in 2022 was invited to compete in the Patriot All-America event where she finished T33.
