Wright Shuts Out Columbia to Open Series
April 18, 2025 | Softball
Princeton junior Brielle Wright tossed a complete-game shutout to open the softball team's three-game series with Columbia on Friday afternoon at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field as Allie Goodwin, Braeden Hale and Karis Ford drove in the runs in a 4-0 win.
The win moves Princeton to 12-1 on the season, 3 1/2 games and a head-to-head tiebreaker in front of second-place Dartmouth and Harvard. Princeton has eight Ivy League games left in the regular season, starting with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday back at Cynthia Paul Field, while the rest of the league will get their weekend series going on Saturday. The twinbill will be streamed on ESPN+ (Game 1 | Game 2) with the international stream available here and live scoring here. Princeton will celebrate its five-member senior class ahead of Saturday's game as the weekend is Princeton's last home Ivy series of the regular season.
The loss put Columbia (7-6) a half-game back of fourth-place Brown (7-5) in the race for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. Princeton would clinch a tournament spot with a Saturday sweep and would host the tournament if it finishes with the league's best Ivy record.Â
Three of Princeton's four runs came in the first inning. Walks for Sonia Zhang and Lauren Sablone and an Allison Ha base hit loaded the bases for Goodwin, who had a two-run single, and Hale followed with a base hit to pick up Ha for the 3-0 lead.
Three innings later, Graciela Dominguez walked, Lauren Pappert doubled to put them both in scoring position, and a Sonia Zhang infield hit loaded the bases for Ford to draw a walk that pushed the lead to 4-0.
That was more than enough for Wright and Princeton defensively, as Wright limited the Lions to four hits and three walks, striking out five.Â
