Baseball Splits Twin Bill With Brown
April 19, 2025 | Baseball
PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton baseball team hosted the Brown Bears for its final home series of the regular season. The Tigers picked up a 8-6 win in game one led by a Jake Bold grand slam and Jake Koonin home run. Princeton fell to Brown in game two 7-4.
The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at 12:00 PM where the team will celebrate senior day before the game.
Game 1: Princeton 8, Brown 6
The first two innings kept both teams off the board before Princeton found a spark in the bottom of the third inning. Koonin knocked in an RBI single to score Tommy Googins. Caden Shapiro hit a perfectly placed bunt single to load the bases. Bold launched the first pitch he saw over the right field wall to give Princeton a 5-0 lead.
The Bears tied things up with a five-run inning of their own in the fifth but this would not deter the Tigers.
Back-to-back walks brought up Jake Kernodle, who singled to bring in the go-ahead run. Nick Shenefelt slapped a base hit to bump Princeton's lead to two runs.
Brown cut the deficit to one in the top of the eighth, but Koonin hit his seventh home run of the year to give the Tigers some insurance before they closed it out in the ninth.
Andrew D'Alessio got his fourth win of the season on the bump after going 5.0 innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just one earned run. The senior captain has now pitched a whopping 200.1 innings in his career.
Justin Kim got his third save of the season after throwing a season high 4.0 innings with three punchouts.
Game 2: Princeton 4, Brown 7
The Tigers plated two runs in the bottom of the first to kick off the second game of the doubleheader. Kernodle hit an RBI single before Shapiro came in to score on a wild pitch.
Jacob Faulkner pitched four scoreless innings before Brown broke through with a run in the top of the fifth. The Bears pushed the pace with a three-run seventh to force Princeton to bring in Elliott Eaton in the game for the eighth.
Brown tacked on another three to set the score at 7-2.
Princeton got back two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a single right up the middle, but the Tigers were unable to complete the rally.
